A woman in North Carolina could not believe she has caught coronavirus disease (COVID-19) despite practicing social distancing and self-isolation for nearly a month now.
Rachel Brummert was taking extra precautionary measure of not leaving their house as she is suffering from an autoimmune disease that can make her at risk of easily contracting COVID-19.
With her underlying condition, Brummert stayed in a separate room from her husband, reported Daily Mail UK.
Despite these measures she still tested positive for the virus last Thursday after beginning to notice symptoms.
In an interview with WCNC, Brummert said she believes it was passed to her when she collected a bag of groceries delivered to her doorstep.
She did not have a close contact with the delivery woman, but she missed to wear gloves when she picked up the bags of groceries from the front porch of her house.
“I’m absolutely terrified. This is the sickest I’ve ever been and it’s the most scared I’ve ever been,” Brummert said.
Brummert added: “I’ve had the flu, this is not the flu. It’s a whole other monster.”
For now, she is in complete self-isolation as she is terrified of going to hospital due to her underlying condition.
North Carolina has recorded more than 4,300 COVID-19 cases.
