Another doctor who was fighting at the front lines against coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the Philippines has recently passed away.
Dr. Roberto “Bobby” Anastacio, a cardiovascular medicine specialist working at Makati Medical Center for 30 years, has died due to an undisclosed cause. His death was announced by Makati Medical Center, noting that his “commitment and dedication led him to fight at the COVID-19 frontline.
“Dr. Bobby was not just a health hero for Makati Med, but also a friend and family.”
The hospital added that they salute the doctor and many other health workers who are risking and even sacrificing their lives in this fight against the disease.

The doctor, according to a report by CNN Philippines, also worked as a cardiologist at University of Santo Tomas Hospital and a professor at the UST Faculty of Medicine and Surgery. He was also the former chairman of the Cardiac Graphics Section of the Philippine Heart Center.
Earlier, the Department of Health confirmed that 12 healthcare workers have died due to COVID-19. However, the Philippine Medical Association said that 17 doctors have already fallen from the disease—adding that their deaths could have been prevented had they been given enough protective gear.
The DOH has since purchased a million sets of personal protective equipment for the workers—comprising N95 masks, surgical gowns, gloves, head cover, and foot covers.
