A family of an OFW who recently arrived in the country from China has sought help from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) due to social media posts accusing her of contracting coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Inquirer reported that the 23-year-old domestic worker feared for her life as her neighbors threatened to shoot her if she comes out of her house.
She arrived at Ninoy Aquino International Airport last January 31 and flew to Laguindigan, Misamis Oriental the next day.
She agreed to undergo a 14-day home quarantine as required by the Department of Health (DOH).
Wilfred Agtina, DOH Provincial Disease Surveillance Office chief said the OFW remained asymptomatic throughout the quarantine period.
Health authorities already cleared from the disease but, her neighbors still consider her as a health risk.
The anxiety of the neighborhood was fueled by false information circulating on social media accusing the OFW of contracting COVID-19.
The family is now mulling to file charges against their neighbors who threatened them.
The OFW said they are being discriminated due to false reports.
Meanwhile, NBI said they will investigate the incident and will file charges against individuals who spread fake news about the OFW.
