Court sentences Filipino hospital employee to jail for stealing from a patient

A Filipino hospital employee has been sentenced by the Court of First Instance to jail for stealing money from a patient, Khaleej Times reported.
The 31-year-old Filipino will serve six months in prison for stealing Dh20,000 from a 26-year-old Nigerian who gave birth in October last year.
“Relatives and friends helped her towards settling the hospital expenses. On the day of the incident, the money was left for some time at the reception. It was gone when I came to take it,” the witness recounted during the investigation.
CCTV footage showed the defendant taking the bag when it was unattended. He was subsequently arrested by police from the Al Rafaa police station upon review of the said video.
The defendant denied the charge.
The court, after sentencing, also ordered the defendant deported after he served the jail term.
The ruling, however, can be appealed.
