Dettol issues clarification on claims that it can ‘kill’ coronavirus strains

Dettol’s manufacturing company has clarified that their products have not yet been tested to kill the lethal Wuhan strain of the coronavirus.
Reckitt Benckiser, the group behind Dettol stated that it can actually kill some coronavirus strains that cause common colds, but has yet to test if it’s effective against the 2019 – novel coronavirus acute respiratory disease (2019-nCoV ARD).

Dettol Arabia states that their products were already tested against other coronaviruses such as MERS-CoV and SARS-CoV and have been found to kill the virus, as per a report from Khaleej Times.
It further said that they are working with partners to understand the virus and test their product’s effectiveness against it.

James Michael Lafferty, global CEO of Fine Hygienic Holding, said claims like a disinfectant can kill certain types of coronaviruses should be confirmed through clinical study.
