Silliman University to adopt alternative learning scheme amid nCoV threat

Silliman University has announced on Monday that academic activities and assessment for students in preschool up to senior high school will be conducted from their homes, as part of precautionary measures to amid the threat of the 2019 novel coronavirus acute respiratory disease (2019-nCoV ARD).
The Dumaguete City-based institution, through an advisory posted on social media accounts, said that should the situation regarding the virus worsens another advisory will be posted whether or not classes will resume on February 10.
The teachers, meanwhile, shall continue to entertain queries from parents, conduct parent conferences, compute grades and prepare the necessary materials.
College students and graduate school students will continue to hold classes until further notice.
Campus activities for the month of February are also postponed.
Students with cold or flu-like symptoms are advised to immediately see their doctors or visit the University Clinic.
Students are also urged to “Observe proper hygiene, stay healthy, eat nutritious food, drink lots of water and monitor updates from WHO, DOH and other authorities.”
As of posting, the Philippines has two confirmed cases of the 2019-nCoV ARD and one of the patients has died on Saturday.
Health officials earlier said the first confirmed nCoV ARD case, a 38-year-old Chinese woman, the partner of the 44-year-old Chinese man who died, visited Cebu and Dumaguete prior to being quarantined.
Three persons, among 15 Persons Under Investigation in Central Visayas are contacts of confirmed nCoV cases.
