The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) proved that they could also play a huge role outside the court by helping victims of Taal volcano get back on their feet.
PBA Commissioner Willie Marcia announced that the league would donate Php1 million for the evacuees of the Taal eruption. The check was given to a staff member of Gov. Hermillando Mandanas on Friday right before PBA Governors’ Cup Game 5 finals commenced at the Mall of Asia Arena, as per a report by the Philippine Daily Inquirer.
“We invited Gov. Mandanas, who’s our family friend, to come by but he’s busy taking care of his constituents in Batangas so we’ll give the check to one of his staff members,” said Marcial.
The Commissioner furthered that the officials and the 12 team governors of the league were zealous to help the victims.
PBA also donated a few hundred pairs of slippers. Marcial recalled that the Batangas City Sports Center where the PBA holds its out-of-town games in the province was full of evacuees.
Authorities urged the public to evacuate as the status of Taal Volcano remains at Alert Level 4.
