PCG opens ‘one-stop-shop’ recruitment areas in provinces

The Philippine Coast Guard established one-stop-shop recruitment areas from some provinces in the country to accommodate more aspiring applicants.

According to Capt. Armand Balilo, spokesperson for the PCG, the organization decided to reach out to the provinces of Negros Occidental, Bicol, Cebu, and Zamboanga in order to give an equal opportunity for aspiring applicants who wish to join the PCG.

“The PCG has evolved. We are no longer just a seagoing agency. We are a maritime service agency that performs different technical functions. PCG chief Adm. Joel Garcia wants to professionalize and specialize our personnel in a particular field such as marine environmental protection, maritime safety and aids to navigation,” Balilo said.

He told that applicants could obtain all the needed documents for their application from designated one-stop-shops recruitment areas at the district level from their respective provinces.

The Captain told it was far from the previous process where an aspiring applicant from the province must travel to Manila while some were compelled to borrow money or sell their property to finance their needs when applying in Manila.

Philippine Coast Guard is an armed and uniformed service tasked primarily with enforcing laws within Philippine waters, conducting maritime security operations, safeguarding life and property at sea, and protecting marine environment and resources.
