PAGASA issues Signal No.1 as Ursula nears Samar

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) raised Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal number 1 in Visayas and Mindanao are due to onslaught of Tropical Storm Ursula.

Tropical Storm Ursula was spotted 790 kilometers east northeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.

Moderated to heavy rains are expected in Visayas, Bicol Region and Caraga in Mindanao.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal Number 1 is raised in Sorsogon, Masbate including Ticao islands in Bicol Region.

Signal no. 1 is also raised in Eastern Samar, Northern Samar, Samar, Biliran, Leyte, Southern Leyte, towns of Carmen, Asturias, Tuburan, Catmon, Sogod, Borbon, Tabuelan, Tabogon, San Remigio, Bogo, Medellin, Daanbantayan, Bantayan islands, and Camotes islands in Northern Cebu, Central Cebu and Northeastern portion of Bohol province.

Surigao del Norte and Dinagat islands in Mindanao are also under signal number 1.

The state weather bureau warned that Ursula is forecasted to gradually intensify to at most Severe Tropical Storm category prior to landfall over Eastern Visayas tomorrow afternoon or evening.

PAGASA also noted that suspension of maritime activities may be experienced in areas where Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) is in effect.

The public and the disaster risk reduction and management council are advised to take appropriate actions and monitor the Weather Bulletin and updates from the weather bureau.
