Pope Francis: Church is losing influence

Pope Francis said that Catholic Church leaders should “change their mentality” as the Church today is being less heeded and followed in the modern world.

In his Christmas greetings to the Roman Curia in the Vatican, the Pontiff said there is a need to think of a new approach and attitude

“We are no longer the only ones today to produce culture, neither the first nor the most listened to,” Pope Francis said.

He added that the world is no longer in the regime of Christianity and oftentimes being ridiculed and mocked.

“We are no longer in a regime of Christianity because faith — especially in Europe, but also in a large part of the West — is no longer an obvious presupposition of living together; worse, it is often denied, mocked, marginalized and ridiculed,” he added.

The Pope suggests that there should be a change in pastoral mentality. Pope Francis has been introducing groundbreaking reforms in the conservative Catholic Church since he became Pope in 2013.

Pope Francis also warned about conservative leaders going back to the past instead of being open to changes.
