Philippine Airlines has confirmed that its flight PR113 which took off from Los Angeles Airport (LAX) bound for Manila landed safely back to LAX after one of its engines suffered a technical problem and spewed fire.
“All 342 passengers and 18 crew members are safe and were able to disembark from the airplane using regular airstairs,” PAL said in a statement.
PAL management said they appreciate the calmness and patience of the passengers. They also lauded them for cooperating with the cabin crew during the emergency landing.
“We are extending all necessary assistance and are arranging to rebook them on alternative flights to Manila. In the meantime, our passengers were given meals and hotel accommodation,” PAL said.
The flight staff was headed by Capt. Tristan Simeon and Purser Joanne Marie Dirige, who executed the unscheduled landing.
The flight involved a Boeing 777 aircraft with registry number RP-C7775. The flight crew elected to turn back to the airport and make a precautionary emergency landing. The aircraft landed at 12 noon local time.
“We affirm that safety is our top priority and that Philippine Airlines is fully cooperating with the concerned airport and aviation authorities,” PAL said.
