Public prosecutors in UAE can now punish those who are overstaying in the country as visa violation has been ncluded in the 30 offenses where they have been given powers to issue or cancel criminal orders and impose fines.
The new decision allows prosecutors to punish anyone who stays in the country for a period not exceeding 90 days after their visa expires, according to a Khaleej Times report. Violators will face a fine of Dh1,000.
UAE’s Attorney General, Dr. Hamad Saif Al Shamsi, issued a new decree, No. 119 of 2019 on the penal order. It gives members of the public prosecution, who are below the grade of chief prosecutor in their department, the power to cancel or amend the criminal order issued by members of the public prosecution within seven days of its issuance.
Other offenses in the new rule include dud cheques, defaming public officials, eating in the public during Ramadan, and traffic violations.
Fines range from Dh1,000 to Dh10,000.
Here are the corresponding fines to some of the violations:
-anyone who intentionally abuses or insults others by using telecommunications means: Dh3,000
-anyone who wrongly burns a property of another: Dh3,000.
-anyone caught eating or drinking in the public during the day in the month of Ramadan: Dh2,000
-anyone attempting to commit suicide: Dh1,000 fine.
-anyone defaming public officials: Dh5,000.
-anyone who gives out a dud cheque with a value of up to Dh100,000:
Dh5,000
If the cheque is worth Dh100,000 and Dh200,000, one will face a fine of Dh10,000. (LB)
