President Rodrigo Duterte has admitted that it will be difficult to eradicate hazing in the Philippines.
This amid a strengthened Anti-Hazing law which was passed last year. The issue comes after a series of hazing cases resurfaced with one involving the death of Philippine Military Cadet Darwin Dormitorio.
“Prangka-prangka lang, hindi mo maaalis yan,” he said. Duterte added that he underwent hazing himself. He recalled that he, himself, was hospitalized for three days.
“I was hospitalized for three days, massive hematoma, then at one time… si Justice Buji Santos ng Supreme Court, tsaka si Bambet Mendoza another classmate of mine, we wrote our fraternity and ask earnestly to go away with the physical… wala rin… hindi mo talaga maalis ‘yan,” Duterte said.
“Hindi mo talaga matanggal ‘yan. Unless you ban fraternity for all time. Make it criminal offense by joining a fraternity but that would raise so many constitutional issue. Hindi mo talaga mapigilan ‘yan,” Duterte explained. (TT)
