President Rodrigo Duterte has expressed his concerns over the sudden rise of vape users in the country.
Senator and former presidential aide Bong Go said in a senate hearing. Go added that Duterte wants an information campaign about the health hazards brought by vaping.
Go explained that Duterte wanted to know second hand exposure should be a cause for concern from non-vape users.
“Ang concern ni presidente dito, sino ba ang nagre-regulate sa ngayon. Hindi ba kapag nagsisigarilyo ka ng vape, pagbuga mo wala bang epekto ang second hand smoke sa katabi mo?” Go told health officials.
“Sinabi niya sa akin na kung same ang epekto ng buga ng secondhand smoke sa katabi, then he will consider it the same sa mga existing cigarettes, he added.
The President has issued an executive order banning cigarette smoking in public places.
The Health Department said that it has already issued regulations on the use of electronic cigarettes or e-cigarettes.
