Standing firm on his stand against the passage of the Sexual Orientation Gender Identity Expression (SOGIE) bill which gives protection to members of the LGBTQ+ community, CIBAC Party-list Representative Eddie Villanueva now uses psychiatric studies to build on arguments.
Villanueva, who is also the founder and lead pastor of the Jesus is Lord Movement, won a seat in the 18th Congress and is currently a Deputy House Speaker.
In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Villanueva said that he will file resolution to look into what really happened on transgender woman Gretchen Diez last month.
“We will file a House resolution and look into this and find out the truth,” he said.
When asked about how to settle the ‘restroom’ issue, Villanueva brought up some studies by psychiatrist John Hopkins, who considers homosexuality as a disorder.
“I believe John Hopkins, the psychiatrist, and they said that being transgender is a mental disorder,” he said.
“I love them because God loves us all sinners. We are all sinners,” he added.
Villanueva then called being a transgender as a “spiritual disease” and mentioned cases of gay personalities who went back to the “right track”.
“Spiritual disease yan eh. Look at what happened to Anthony Raquel known as Tonet Macho, Fanny Serrano. They were gay but they were delivered,” he added.
He also quoted a biblical quote, saying:
“God created mankind in his own image and he created male and female. And to create another gender is a direct rebellion to God.”
Villanueva also appeals to Western countries not to influence the country in the issue of same-sex marriage.
