UAE evacuates citizens in Florida before expected Hurricane Dorian landfall

The United Arab Emirates Consulate in New York City has evacuated its citizens and other UAE residents in Florida before hurricane Dorian make its expected landfall on Monday, Sept. 2.

In their official twitter account, the UAE Consulate on Sunday alerted Emiratis in Florida that they will evacuate them to avoid Dorian.

“The Consulate General of the United Arab Emirates in New York is grateful to the leadership of the UAE and the Uae Embassy in Washington for their efforts to provide safety for UAE citizens,” posted by the consulate in their twitter account.

Emiratis and some UAE residents in Florida safely boarded onto an aircraft.


The UAE embassy is still evacuating the remaining residents while they gave reminders for those haven’t receive the instructions from the Representative Missions of the United Arab Emirates, to contact the Consulate General of the State in New York at +1 636-2575 or the State Embassy in Washington, D.C., on +1-202-431-5530.

Meanwhile, the embassy urged its citizens currently in Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina to continue monitor the progress of Hurricane Dorian in their local areas.

They may call the Consulate General in New York at these numbers: (646) 630-2575 or the UAE Embassy at (202) 431-5530.

As of this posting, however, new forecasts say Dorian may spare Florida from a direct hit. It is seen to change course and make landfall over South Carolina on Wednesday or Thursday. But state of emergencies are still in effect for the entire states of Florida, North Carolina and South Carolina, along with 12 counties in Georgia, according to CBS News.
