President Rodrigo Duterte assured businessmen in China that he would feed coins to officials who are guilty of extorting money from businessmen.
In a speech organized by the Trade Department in China for investors, Duterte recalled his anti-corruption efforts and actions to protect and ensure the safety of Chinese businessmen.
Duterte said that businessmen could run to him should they encounter corrupt officials.
“So if you encounter or your agents or your lawyers would tell you that this official is asking for something like this DPWH or whatever, you just tell me and I will call that official whoever he is in my office and in your presence,” Duterte said.
“And kindly bring some money, old money and coins with you. I will tell the officials to eat the money and swallow the coins in your presence,” he explained.
Duterte, a tough-talking local official before becoming President was known to do such acts against law violators.
“I am not joking. I have done it several times and perhaps I will do more until and unless the bureaucracy of the Philippines behaves. So that is one,” he added.
Duterte assured businessmen that they are working with the Chinese government to solve the kidnapping cases in the country.
