‘Riders’ among 500 illegal aliens intercepted by BI

Over 500 illegal aliens the Bureau of Immigration (BI) has intercepted from January to June this year – among them were the so-called ‘riders’.

‘Riders’ are identified as foreign nationals with incomplete documents and rely on other foreigners who have a legitimate purpose to visit the country, as per a report from UNTV.

The Immigration Bureau is also monitoring overstaying foreigners or illegal workers.

“Mayroon po tayong (We have) branches or sub port offices kung saan po itong mga opisinang ito (where these offices) [are] in charge of monitoring the aliens that are located in their specific jurisdiction,” UNTV quoted BI Spokesperson Dana Sandoval Sandoval as saying.

A tourist visa lasts for six months, while the validity of a working visa can last from one to three years.

Bureau of Immigration (BI) Commissioner Jaime Morente has ordered to further tighten the monitoring of all international airport operations in the country.

On August 23, Morente directed the transfer of authority of the Travel Control and Enforcement Unit (TCEU) under his office.

The TCEU is in charge of passenger inspections in different international airports.

The unit intercepts possible victims of human trafficking and illegal recruitment.
