Filipinos now have the opportunity to name two celestial bodies hundreds of light years from the solar system.
The International Astronomical Union (IAU) who is the only scientific organization mandated to name everything in space is now scouting names that will suit for planet Wasp 34-b and its parent star Wasp 34.
The constellation where they belong is between the orbit of Mercury and Venus.
GMA News reported that the proposed names for the two celestial objects shall be in 4 to 16 characters in length.
IAU also encourages indigenous terms in the Philippines. Deadline is on September 15, 2015 and the planet will be named in December.
Further details of the activity can be accessed at the website of IAU Name Exoworld-Philippines.
