Hong Kong protests begin to affect tourism industry in neighboring countries

The tourism sectors of neighboring countries of Hong Kong are now concerned with the continuing protest in the country as it has affected footfall in their respective countries.

The protest rally reached to Hong Kong International Airport recently, which forced the airport to cancel flights of several airlines.

As a result, some Filipino tour guides said neighboring areas like Macau are affected by the current events happening in Hong Kong.

This is because tourists going to Macau pass through Hong Kong.

An ABS-CBN news report quoted a tour guide Frederick Libara, who said a decrease of about 70 to 80 percent in tourist arrivals have been observed because of the protest.

“‘Yung mga turista is sa Hong Kong galing kadalasan. Eh gawa nga ng nagprotesta sa Hong Kong at cancelled ang flights, so nabawasan talaga ‘yung mga turista, siguro nasa 70-80 porsiyento (ang bawas),”Libara stated.

Some tour guides are now accepting cheaper fees in order to still have an income.
