Requiring Chinese nationals to take Philippine visa applications may affect the number of Chinese tourist arrivals to the country.
Former Executive Vice-President of the Tourism Congress of the Philippines Aileen Clemente said travel companies whose main market are Chinese nationals will be affected by this, as reported by Business World.
“Definitely, there will be less interest in the Philippines on the part of the Chinese,” Clemente said.
Foregin Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin said in order to ensure national security, all visas of Chinese visitors should be issued by consular offices and not upon their arrival.
Locsin furthered that the country must take care in processing visa applications, “picking only the most reputable worldwide”.
It has been observed that the number of Chinese tourist in the Philippines has increased year on year with the visa-on-arrival privilege.
