Paolo Duterte now open to join House Speakership race

Presidential son and Davao City Representative Paolo Duterte changed his mind and may join the hotly contested House Speakership race.

Duterte’s son said that he had no interest in joining the race at first but changed his mind when the idea of term sharing is being pushed by Taguig Representative Alan Peter Cayetano.

“Moapil na ko pagka-speaker. The house is divided, I might be able to help unite it. Pareho lang kaming binoto ng mga tao ah. Kung term sharing, term sharing na kaming lahat,” the presidential son said.

The elected Davao City Representative is even proposing to other bloc to select their speaker.

“I will ask the Visayas bloc to elect their speaker for their term share, and so with the Mindanao bloc and the party-list coalition,” Duterte added.

“We are not talking about two persons here. We are talking about our beloved country. It is not about speakership alone, but who is the right person to unite the congress and I hope those running for the speakership stop influencing the cabinet,” he further said.

President Rodrigo Duterte previously said that he will step down if Paolo will vie for the speakership post.
