Cebu Pacific, PAL, major airlines commit to help decongest NAIA

Major airlines Cebu Pacific, Philippine Airlines, Air Asia, Pal Express ane CebGo agreed to sign a pledge of commitment to decongest the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

The agreement includes developing other gateways in the country like the Sangley Airport in Cavite, improve On Time Performance (OTP) and improve passenger convenience.

The move seeks to address the growing demand of air travel in the country. In 2018 NAIA’s passenger capacity grew to 138 percent than its actual capacity.

Air passengers surge from 36.5 million to 45 million.

In addition, the agreement focuses on the need to review rationalization of flights, aircraft movement, usage of slots and flying rights to boost time performance.

All signatory airlines also vowed to promote other gateways like the Sangley airport in Cavite which is set to be finished in September. The companies also promised to improve information dissemination on flight delays and cancellations on all available platforms including social media.

All airline companies also agreed to provide snacks, meals to passengers inside the aircraft in accordance to the Air Passenger Bill of Rights.

Transportation Secretary Arthur P. Tugade and Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat attended the event. The signatories included Cebu Pacific Air President and CEO Lance Gokongwei, Philippine Airlines Officer-in-Charge Vivienne Tan, AirAsia President and CEO Dexter Comendador, PAL Express President Bonifacio Sam, and CebGo Vice President for Corporate Affairs Paterno Mantaring Jr.
