Palawan, Philippines– Two mayoralty candidates in the town of Araceli, Palawan will be flipping coin to determine their fate in this year’s mayoralty race.
Incumbent Mayor Noel Beronio and former Mayor Sue Cudilla both received 3,495 votes during the midterm elections.
The Municipal Board of Canvassers passed a resolution to resort to a toss coin with the winner to be proclaimed shortly after, said elections officer Emil Yap Alili.
The Omnibus Election Code states that in case of a tie local, election offices can resort to drawing of lots or toss coin to see who is more lucky than the other. The winner will be proclaimed after.
The toss coin between the two mayors should be done before this week ends because the law says both candidates should receive a five-day notice before the test of luck.
The two candidates have agreed to the coin toss.
Araceli is an island municipality northeast of mainland Palawan with 14,909 residents as of 2015.
