Manila, Philippines– In its first media briefing ahead of the midterm polls, the Commission on Elections assured the public that it’s all systems go for Monday’s elections.
Comelec Chairman Sheriff Abas said 92% of polling precincts have finished their final testing and sealing preparation. The poll body hopes to finish all the testing tonight or Monday morning.
Abas also said that the almost 500 defective SD cards have been replaced. This, amid concerns that this could hamper the conduct of elections.
The COMELEC said at least 164,000 policemen are deployed for the midterm elections to ensure public safety. The Philippine National Police also said that they will closely monitor cases of vote buying.
Abas has likewise announced that the precinct finder is up and ready to assist the voting public.
The Armed Forces of the Philippines meantime said it has deployed more troops to different areas to make sure the peaceful conduct of polls.
At least 400 checkpoints are up in Mindanao.
