LOOK: Emirates completes installation of Expo 2020 Dubai livery on 40 aircraft

The Emirates has completed the specially made decals for its 40 aircrafts, more than one year before the much anticipated Expo 2020 Dubai.

In a statement, Emirates said the 20 Boeing 777 and 20 Airbus A380 have been installed with Expo 2020 Dubai liveries.

The paint job is one of the largest decal projects that took place at the Emirates Aircraft Appearance Centre and it took about 15,000 hours or over 14 months to finish.

The first one was finished in 2017 on a Boeing 777-300ER with a blue decal while the last aircraft was an A30 aircraft that sported an orange color.

The source of inspiration for the Expo 2020 Dubai decals was the event’s logo, based on a 4,000-year-old ring excavated at an archaeological site in Dubai.

Thus, the decals’ designs are circles and hoops encircling a ring, in three distinct colours reflecting the sub-themes of Expo 2020 Dubai – amber tinged orange for ‘opportunity’, emerald green for ‘sustainability’ and cerulean blue for ‘mobility’.

Dubai is hosting Expo 2020 that is expected to draw 25 million visitors from 190 participant countries around the world. Around 70 percent of these visitors are expected to fly in from 80 countries where Emirates and its partner flydubai have direct flights. It will run from October 20, 2020, to April 10, 2021.

“As we begin to gear up for Expo 2020 Dubai, we are proactively tapping into the power of Emirates’ network to spread awareness and capture the world’s attention around the themes of this global event,” Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed al Maktoum, chairman and chief executive of Emirates Airline and Group.

“With less than a year and half left until Expo 2020 opens its doors and welcome millions of visitors from around the world, we are very proud that our Premier Partner, Emirates Airline, is carrying our message around world through its incredible destination network,” Reem Al Hashimy, UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation and Director-General of Dubai Expo 2020 Bureau, added.

The Expo 2020 Dubai decals will remain on the 40 aircraft until April 2021.

Emirates currently has a state-of-the-art fleet of 270 aircraft, covering a network of over 150 destinations in 86 countries.
