A Filipina expatriate was among the 10 drivers who were awarded by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai because of their safe and cautious driving.
Lyrain Moratin was one of the winners of the Shell GoldStar Contest which is a collaborative campaign between the Shell, RTA, Sharjah Police, and Ciel Marketing and Events, reported Gulf News.
The said event aims to recognize drivers who observe and practice traffic safety in order to spread awareness on driving behaviors that can help avoid accidents.
The winners are chosen if they follow basic traffic rules, such as using seat belts, staying off the phone while driving, lane discipline, using child safety seats, using indicators and observing speed limits.
Moratin said that she was on her way to the Etihad Mall when a police asked her to stop and pull over.
She initially thought that she got in trouble and that there was a traffic rule she violated but the police man actually brought her good news.
“Normally when the police stops, you get a feeling that you might have done something wrong, that’s the feeling I got. They checked my licence and vehicle registration and asked me to follow them. I was surprised to know that I was being rewarded for good road behavior,” Gulf News quoted Moratin as saying.
Moratin, just like the other winners, was able to receive a cash prize wirth Dh1,000 and a certificate.
The said contest will run until April 10 and will continue to reward drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists who observe proper traffic behavior.
