A male dog died after he was gang-raped and mutilated by four unidentified men who are believed to be drug addicts in Mumbai, India.
The dog, named Courage, sustained major injuries and suffered from excessive bleeding and internal damage.
He then died in his sleep on November 21, according to a Facebook post by the animal welfare non-government organization Animals Matter To Me (AMTM)
The dog’s remains will be sent for post-mortem examinations.
“Another speechless soul harmed by a dangerous animal called Human. Hope culprits are nabbed soon,” the Facebook post reads.
A local resident, Sudha Fernandes found Courage on November 17 bleeding with its penis mutilated, reported The Asian Age.
An auto-rickshaw driver told Fernandes that the dog was gang-raped by four men that same day at around 2 in the morning.
“He told me that the dog needed to be immediately admitted. The dog’s front legs were tied and its mouth gagged while it was sexually tortured. Its loud screams alerted the driver, but the accused fled from the spot,” The Asian Age quoted Fernandes as saying.
Courage initially tried to run away but Fernandes found him near a temple. He was then sent to a veterinary clinic.
Police are now on the lookout for the four suspects.
