Ultra Lotto winner had to borrow money to claim jackpot prize

One of the two winners of the Php1.18 billion Ultra Lotto 6/58 jackpot had to borrow money to be able to travel from Samar to Manila to claim his prize.

Florante Solmerin, PCSO Deputy Spokesperson, said that the lotto winner from Samar was accompanied by a relative when he claimed his prize.

“He is male who hails from Samar. He claimed his prize of P472 million last Tuesday. Nanghiram nga lang siya ng pamasahe para makapunta rito [sa Maynila],” Solmerin told GMA News.

On October 14, PCSO announced that the two winners would split the P1,180,622,508 prize after betting on the winning six-digit combination: 40, 50, 37, 25, 01, and 45.

Minus the 20 percent tax from the Php1.18 billion lotto grand prize, each of the two winners received Php472 million.

Solmerin said that the other winner, who hails from Albay, has yet to claim his share of the prize.

The deputy spokesperson said that it usually takes one to two weeks for the lotto winners from provinces to claim their prize. Those residing in Metro Manila, meanwhile, claim their prize within days.

Unclaimed prizes after one year go to the charity fund of PCSO. Every year, Php2.5 billion-worth of prizes are unclaimed, Solmerin revealed.
