Dubai residents who joined the cleanup drive on Saturday at the Sunset Beach in Umm Suqeim are calling to impose heftier fines and more hours of community service to those who would improperly dispose their trash in the country.
More than 100 parents and students joined the cleanup drive, and they were able to collect onshore and offshore trash weighing 60kg from a beach in Dubai, reported Khaleej Times.
Most of the pieces of trash that they collected include cigarette butts, food wastes, plastic wrappers, and bottles among many others.
After the beach cleanup campaign, the participants are now asking for the imposition of heavier penalties for those who would be caught littering as it will be one way to help resolve the problem.
According to What’s On Dubai, residents who will be caught littering in the streets or in the parks of Dubai will face a fine worth Dh500.
Meanwhile, a heftier fine worth Dh1,000 will be imposed to those who will dispose waste by burning it, and litter anywhere on a Dubai beach.
