House members back ‘one of biggest airport in world’ project in Bulacan

Some members of the House of Representatives are backing the construction of the Bulcan airport dubbed as “one of the biggest airports in the world”.

ACTS-OFW Party-list Rep. Aniceto Bertiz III said the airport will help aid the congestion of passengers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

“[Aside from] Clark International Airport in Pampanga, a second alternate gateway in Bulacan would go a long way in easing the aircraft and passenger traffic buildup at the NAIA,” said Bertiz.

Bertiz, an OFW advocate, added that among those stranded at NAIA when a Xiamen passenger aircraft skidded off the airport runway were OFWs who feared that they may lose their jobs due to their delay.

Deputy Speaker Prospero Pichay of Surigao del Sur, meanwhile, said that the airport in Bulacan is nearer than the proposed alternate airport in Clark.

“I hope that the government will approve it kasi mas malapit [sa Metro Manila] kaysa sa Clark (It’s closer to Metro Manila compared to Clark),” Pichay said.

San Miguel Corporation (SMC) president Ramon Ang revealed that the proposed Bulacan Airport is set to become one of the biggest airports not only in Asia but in the world.

In his speech during Far Eastern University’s 90th General Commencement Exercises where he was conferred the degree of Doctor of Business Engineering Honoris Causa, Ang shared his company’s plans in the field of infrastructure, particularly their proposed Bulacan Airport.

“The Bulacan Airport will be one of the biggest airports in Asia and the world,” Ang said.

The business tycoon underscored that the airport will help boost the country’s employment and tourism.

“It will have six parallel runways good for 200 million passengers equipped with mass transit. It will create 40 million jobs and bring in 20 million foreign tourists a year. A comparable country like Thailand with a population of 100 million brought in 30 million tourists,” Ang said.
