Metro Manila flooded with 2 weeks worth of rain

The rainfall experienced by Metro Manila on Saturday, August 11, brought about by southwest monsoon reached more than half of the rainfall average of 504 millimeters for August.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the monsoon caused 270 millimeters (mm) of rain to fall over Metro Manila, reported Manila Bulletin.

The rainfall on Saturday was aggravated by tropical storm Karding, estimated at 625 kilometers north-northeast of extreme Northern Luzon on Sunday morning.

The heavy rainfall made it impossible for some roads to be passable by vehicles. Commuters experienced being stuck in traffic for up to six-hours while others walked in knee-deep to chest-deep floods in various parts of Mandaluyong, Marikina and Quezon City. However, PAGASA said that the amount of rainfall in 12 hours was still lower compared to Ondoy’s rate of 455 mm in six hours in 2009.
