Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) on Tuesday, August 7, announced that electricity rates for August will go up by ₱0.0265 per kilowatt-hour (kWh).
With the price increase, overall electricity rates spike from from ₱10.1925 per kwh in July to ₱10.219 per kwh in August.
“The increase is the result of ₱0.6554 per kWh rise in the cost of power from Power Supply Agreements (PSAs) due to lower average plant dispatch and higher fuel prices,” the company said.
The said rise in the cost of power from PSA increased generation charge from ₱5.2651 per kwh last month to ₱5.3491 per kwh in August.
Households consuming 200 kwh, will have additional ₱5 in their August bill while ₱8 is expected to be added to households using 300 kwh. Consequently, ₱11 will be added to households consuming 400 kwh and ₱13 for 500 kwh.
