SC: Carlos Celdran guilty for “Damaso” stunt

The Supreme Court has maintained its decision over Carlos Celdran’s infamous “Damaso” stunt in 2010.

In a Facebook post on Monday, Celdran showed the copy of the resolution and said that the Supreme Court denied his motion to reconsider the Court of Appeals’ affirmation of the Manila Metropolitan Trial Court Branch 4 and the Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 32 to convict him for “offending religious feelings.”

For his stunt, Celdran will have to face a minimum of three months to one year in jail.

During a mass in September 2010 inside the Manila Cathedral, Celdran held a placard with the word Damaso written on it in front of Cardinal Gaudencio Rosales, former Philippine Ambassador to Rome Henrietta De Villa, among others.

It can be recalled that the famous tour guide performed the stunt as a protest against the Church’s stand on the then Reproductive Health Bill.

Celdran thanked everyone who supported him and said that the case is about everyone protecting their freedom of expression.

“With my Counsel, I will file for a Motion for Reconsideration on August 15, Wednesday at 1:00PM at the Supreme Court in the hope that the case will be reconsidered and the merits of the case discussed by the en banc,” wrote Celdran in a post.
