Shortly after closing Boracay, the Department of Tourism is also planning to rehabilitate the world-famous Banaue Rice Terraces starting 2019.
DOT Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat visited Ifugao to discuss with the Local Government Unit their biggest infrastructure project yet, reported PNA.
The Banaue Rice Terraces Restoration project will be funded with at least PHP80 million from the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA).
The project will be divided into two parts: the rehabilitation of the Banaue Hotel and the stonewalling of the rice terraces that deteriorated over time.
According to the local Municipality of Banaue, more than 500 hectares of the Banaue Rice Terraces have been already damaged or eroded over time.
