The new 30-kilometer long road connecting the northern and southern part of Ras Al Khaimah has been opened to motorists today, July 11.
The Ministry of Infrastructure and Development (MOID) announced the opening of the road which serves as an extension of the Emirates Road.
“The Ras Al Khaimah Ring Road functions as an extension of Emirates Road. It junctures off Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road and runs for 30 kilometres to RAK Sha’m road towards the Sultanate of Oman,” MOID’s online announcement read.
With the opening of the Ras Al Khaimah Ring Road, traffic congestion is expected to decrease by 30 percent.
“The new road will accommodate about 60 thousand vehicles per day in both directions, reducing the delay of vehicles at the traffic intersections in the emirate. The road consists of three traffic lanes for each direction, with the implementation of a large central island that can be exploited in the future by adding a fourth traffic lane for the road,” said Ahmed Al Hammadi, Director of Roads Department in the Ministry.
“It is also equipped with crossings to receive and distribute traffic from and to the neighborhoods of Ras Al Khaimah in a smooth way not leading to the disruption of traffic,” he added.
