The missing Filipino crew member of a Norwegian Getaway cruise ship has been rescued in waters near Cuba.
Cruise ship Carnival Glory passed by the unidentified Filipino crew member who went overboard from another cruise ship, Norwegian Getaway, near Pinar del Rio, Cuba on Saturday, June 30, reported CBS News.
“The Carnival Glory had found someone in the water waving [his] arms and they rescued him and he was the missing Norwegian Getaway crewmember and that was roughly about 21 miles north of Cuba,” said U.S. Coast Guard spokesman Jonathan Lally.
Carnival spokeswoman AnnMarie Matthews told The Associated Press that the 33-year-old Filipino had been in the waters for 22 hours and was not wearing any safety device when he was rescued.
The Filipino is currently in stable condition and is expected to disembark in Cozumel, Mexico, Carnival Glory’s next stop.
Meanwhile, staff of Norwegian Getaway extended their gratitude towards Carnival Glory for saving the life of the Filipino man.
“We are so happy to know that the individual is safe and will soon be reunited with friends and family,” the Norwegian Getaway cruise ship’s statement said.
Staff of Norwegian Getaway explained that they tried to rescue the Filipino by making a U-Turn and using binoculars to locate the crew member, to no avail due to total darkness.
This claim was backed by the passengers.
