Palace vows justice for slain OFW in South Korea

Malacañang vowed to provide justice to an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) whose skeletal remains were discovered in a septic tank in South Korea.

Special Assistant to the President (SAP) Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go assured the family of OFW Angelo Claveria that the government will do its best to obtain justice for the slain OFW.

Go said President Rodrigo Duterte is set to fly to South Korea on June 3. Go added that some of the issues on the table for discussion would be Claveria’s case.

He also vowed to personally talk with the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) regarding the case.

“Kung gaano natin napabilis ‘yung buto gusto rin po nila na mapabilis yung hustisya,” he said.

The Philippine government has extended burial assistance to the family of the murdered Filipino worker through the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) and also provided a separate Php20,000 cash assistance from Go’s office.

Go said additional help will be given to the family should any need for financial aid arise.

In April, Claveria was found dead inside a septic tank of a paint factory in South Korea.

The murdered OFW last communicated with his family on Christmas Eve of 2015.

In April 20, the Korean Consulate took DNA specimen samples from Claveria’s mother in Iloilo and confirmed that their samples matched.

Authorities are still looking for the suspects to the crime who are believed to be Claveria’s Filipino friends. The suspects are also believed to have returned to the Philippines following Claveria’s death.
