The Dubai Police on Sunday, May 13 signed an agreement with technology leader Acacus Technologies to have driverless patrol vehicles by the 2020.
The release of the smart vehicles will be divided into two phases. The first phase includes deploying vehicles with cameras and video analytics while the second phase will include releasing vehicles with advanced driverless capabilities that can be used for object detection and tracking, reported The Gulf Today.
The deal was signed by Major-General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police and Founder & CEO of Acacus Technologies Mr. Talal Ben Halim.
The move was done in line with Dubai’s ‘Smart City’ initiative.
“This MOU is in compliance and directive of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, The Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to make Dubai world’s smartest city by harnessing technology in the service of all and with best international practices,” Al Marri said.
“The Dubai Police General Headquarters are keen to adopt and implement best in class technology to service everyone, combating crime and reducing it, with the focus on increasing the productivity of our services,” he added.
