Former Philippine ambassador to Kuwait Renato Villa has left the Gulf state after being declared persona non grata by the Kuwaiti government last week.
Villa was accompanied by a group of Filipino workers before leaving Kuwait, reported GMA News.
Before boarding the plane, Villa said he has no regrets for his actions aimed at protecting the welfare of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in the Gulf state.
He added that he has no hard feelings towards the Kuwaiti government.
In April, the Kuwaiti government called the attention of Villa regarding the “uncoordinated” rescue of OFWs spearheaded by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).
Kuwait also expressed dismay over the operations and asked Villa to explain why a video showing rescue operations has been released to the media.
After his alleged failure to respond to the government’s call, Kuwaiti expelled Villa from the Gulf state and declared him persona non-grata.
Both Villa and foreign affairs secretary Alan Peter Cayetano said rescue operations have been done in coordination with local authorities in Kuwait.
