Three Asian men have been sentenced to life imprisonment after they were found guilty of smuggling more than 15 kg of heroin, and promoting drugs in the UAE.
The men were first found guilty of drug trafficking by the lower courts and sentenced to death but the Federal Supreme Court in Abu Dhabi upheld earlier rulings and ordered instead that the men be imprisoned for life, reported Khaleej Times.
Court documents stated that the anti-narcotics department began searching a ship docked in a port in UAE after they have been notified that a huge amount of heroin and psychotropic drugs were being smuggled into the country.
After a thorough probe, authorities found psychotropic drugs and 15 kg of heroin inside the said vessel.
After discovering the smuggled drugs, five men were arrested, but two were cleared after they were proven innocent.
The remaining three, however, were charged with smuggling and promoting drugs.
