The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) plans to ban white taxis at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) following reports of drivers demanding passengers of additional charges.
According to MIAA general manager Ed Monreal, they will implement the ban if another complaint is filed and it is proven upon investigation.
“Kung mahihirapan at sasama at imahe ng ating paliparan at ng ating bansa, pasaway pa, maaapektuhan tayo, hindi na po namin papayagan,” Monreal said.
The usual victims are Filipinos from provinces, including overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), and foreign tourists.
A video posted on Facebook recently went viral showing a taxi driver offering a fixed price and not using the meter to monitor the supposed price of the trip.
MIAA called for the Inter-Agency Council on Traffic (I-ACT) and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to monitor reports regarding the issue especially during the upcoming summer break.
