The Filipino-American duo of composer Robert Lopez and his wife Kristen Anderson-Lopez snatched their second Academy win Sunday after Coco’s ‘Remember Me’ was hailed as best original song.
The couple previously won an Academy Award for their original song and massive hit “Let It Go” from the movie “Frozen” in 2014.
Robert dedicates the song to his mother who passed away while his wife said that she is happy to see many female contenders in their category.
Remember Me is already favored to win the award coming into the ceremony. The song played an integral role in the movie about a Mexican boy who traveled the Land of the Dead to learn the truth about a famous musician who may be his ancestor.
‘Remember Me’ beat out Mary J. Blige’s “Mighty River” from “Mudbound”; Common and Diane Warren’s “Stand Up for Something” from “Marshall”; Benj Pasek and Justin Paul’s “This Is Me” from “The Greatest Showman”; and Sufjan Stevens’ “Mystery of Love” from “Call Me by Your Name.”
Many netizens have come out to social media to express their happiness over the Filipino pride.
