Two major accidents – one at 8:30 am and the other at 10:00 am – were reported to Abu Dhabi authorities with a total of 44 vehicles involved as motorists beat a foggy morning rush hour for work.
Twenty-two people sustained injuries as a result of the crash, according to a Gulf News report, adding that out of this number, 18 sustained minor injuries, two were moderately injured and two were seriously injured.
The accidents brought cars to a standstill at E311 Shiekh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Road after Al Samha bridge inbound. All traffic was diverted to Al Samha bridge E11 Sheikh Maktoum Bin Rashid Road.
The first accident occurred between several vehicles which were en-route to Abu Dhabi while the second was reported in the area after the Al Hair district, en route to the Nahel area, said the Gulf News report.
The Abu Dhabi Police reported that the accident was caused by heavy fog this morning and urged all motorists to avoid rubbernecking and gaping at the scene.
