Abandoned OFW at Riyadh airport returns home

An overseas Filipino worker (OFW) on a wheelchair, whose video went viral when she was abandoned at the Riyadh King Kahlid International Airport from Kuwait, arrived in Manila on Monday, September 11.

OFW Karsoma Hakim Utobara was seen wandering around the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) for hours. She was approached by Airport Transport Liaison Officer Suzette Nueva to offer assistance, ABS-CBN News reported.

With the help of the airport officer, Utobara was reunited with her family who hails from Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur.

According to her recruitment agency, Non-Stop Overseas Employment Corporation (NOEC), Utobara was discharged by her employers from the hospital on September 11 and was sent home to the Philippines because of her mental illness.

Our worker, Karsoma Hakim Utobara (Aiza) was discharged by her employers yesterday from the hospital and was sent home that same day September 11, 2017 via Saudi Airlines 9-13-17,” the agency said in a statement on Facebook.

NOEC said they had no knowledge of Utobara’s return to the country as her employers purchased the ticket themselves and did not inform the agency about it.
