The two Asians who were sentenced to one year in prison due to cross-dressing had their charges reduced to a fine and deportation.
The National has reported that the charges against 26-year-old Singaporean fashion photographer Muhammad Fadli Abdul Rahman and 37-year-old Singaporean Nur Qistina Fitriah Ibrahim were reduced to a Dh10,000 fine and deportation for the duo back in Singapore.
Rahman and Ibrahim were arrested on August 9 in a shopping center “for wearing women’s clothes in public and for behaving indecently” and were found guilty by an Abu Dhabi court, local reports said.

In previous reports, Rahman’s brother said his sibling was just wearing a “normal white shirt” but was arrested by tourism police for wearing earrings.
Article 358 of the UAE penal code indicates “indecent attire” is an act of public indecency and is subjected for criminalization.
Rahman, who is indicated as male in his documents, arrived in United Arab Emirates (UAE) for a project. Ibrahim, who is known to her friends and families as Fifi, was accompanying him on the trip.
Ibrahim is a transgender woman who has yet to have her sex-change operation but has legally changed her name in Singapore.
A spokesperson from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Singapore has stated the embassy will “continue to provide the necessary consular assistance and has been closely monitoring developments to ensure that due process is accorded to them”.
The spokesperson also reiterated that Singaporeans must always respect and follow the laws of the countries they are visiting.
