Law enforcers can’t be lawbreakers—Aquino

Following the “one-time, big-time” anti-illegal drug operation in Bulacan and Caloocan last week, resulting in the arrest of more than 100 suspected drug personalities and 45 individuals dead, including 17-year-old Kian delos Santos, former president Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III urged the current administration to pull on the reins of abusive police officers.

“Noong panahon namin, importante ang proseso. Importante na walang babalik sa amin at sasabihin kami ang mismong lumalabag ng batas,” ABS-CBN New quoted Aquino as he visited his father’s grave on Monday, August 21.

In a speech before members of the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption on August 16, President Rodrigo Duterte approved of the 32 drug suspects killed in Bulacan.

“Maganda ‘yun. Makapatay lang tayo ng mga another 32 everyday then maybe we can reduce what ails this country,” the president said.

Aquino expressed his concern on how the war on drugs is being implemented by police officials on the ground.

“Dapat may pagkakaiba iyung sinasabi nating labas sa batas o outlaw kaysa doon sa nagpapatupad sa batas. Kung pareho ang ginagawa natin at nila, at wala na tayong pinagkaiba, mali ang nangyayari,” Aquino said.
