President Rodrigo Duterte responded to his predecessor Benigno Aquino III’s criticism that the current administration’s war on drugs has not contributed much to the eradication of drug cases in the country.
Former president Aquino described the result of war on drugs as “parang wala yatang nangyari”, to which Duterte replied with a cuss.
“Sabi ni PNoy, parang walang nangyari. Sige, pumasok ka sa droga PNoy, ‘pag hindi kita pinutulan ng ulo, buang ka. Anong walang nangyari,” he said
Duterte said the number of persons in the drug trade his administration has had seized is nearly the same volume as Aquino’s output during his whole presidential term.
“In all of his six years, he was only be able to seize or catch about 3,045 kilos of shabu. Ako, dito ngayon sa akin, just one year, I have already seized about 2,000, nearing 3,000 [of his] entire six years,” Duterte said.
Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abello also hit back at the “ex-politician”.
“With all due respect to former president Aquino, the results of President Duterte’s anti-illegal drug campaign speak for themselves,” Abella said. “Comments from past leaders imply a jaded cynicism borne of a history and political opportunism.”
Abella defended the President’s initiative, noting that it has resulted in the voluntary surrender of over 1.3 million drug personalities.
“Much ground has been gained in the campaign against hard drug traffickers and violators, but the mission is to end the demand, production, distribution and sale of illegal drugs,” he added.
