NBI to conduct separate investigation on Bulacan massacre

The Department of Justice has ordered the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to conduct a separate probe and case buildup on the killing of five people in Bulacan.

According to Department Order 446 issued by Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II, the investigation will be headed by NBI Director Dante Gierran. Aguirre said the NBI probe was ordered to double-check findings by the Philippine National Police (PNP).

Three suspects, namely, Carmelino “Miling” Ibañez, and two other men with aliases Tony and Inggo, were recently identified by local police.

Ibañez, who is currently under police custody, initially confessed to the murder and rape of the wife and mother-in-law when he was high on alcohol and drugs. However, in his extrajudicial statement, he denied the accusation. He also tested negative for drugs use.

Evidence against alias Tony is still weak, admitted by the authorities, while alias Inggo’s whereabouts are still being tracked.
