The first unit of a self-driving automated police patrol vehicle will hit the streets of Dubai before the end of the year, according to Dubai police.
Continuing the Smart Dubai Initiative, the General Directorate of Police in the emirate signed a memorandum of understanding with Singapore-based manufacturer OTSAW Digital to acquire 100 units of the self-driving patrol car by 2020.
Dubai will be the first city in the world to have the robotic cop patrol called O-R3 in operation.
The robotic cars will be fitted with biometric software, 360 degree high-resolution cameras, and radars to detect and survey criminals and other lawbreakers.
These tools will be used to identify faces and vehicles and alert police officers in central command.
The robotic car also has a deployable drone to track fleeing suspects and vehicles,
search lists, and detect and monitor CO2 levels in the surrounding area.
Dubai Police is aiming to make 25 percent of its force a robot by the year 2030.
One unit of robotic car is leased at a cost of $10,000 per month, according to OTSAW.
